Triple 8 Dance Company 2009 Show: Phases
I could not just choose one.
Triple 8 is the East Asian dance company at Princeton University that in actuality practices many forms of dance performance: contemporary, hip hop, martial arts, and, of course, traditional Asian dance. Thus, I created posters that are thematically unified but also reflect the variety of pieces in the show.
I start, as I usually do, with some drawing, knowing I wanted interesting silhouettes to play with in the poster. The texture I also created myself with watercolor and then Photoshop, to get different hues and effects.
They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so I suppose I should be thrilled to find the thematic, multiple image concept reused by another designer in the design agency I was working at for the Indian dance troupe the following year...
