I had recently taken up oil painting again, thanks to a kickstart in the form of an oil painting workshop. For once, I felt it was explained to me what qualities of oil painting lends itself to certain techniques. At the very least it was the first time I really paid attention. Or maybe it was the first time someone was using technique that could directly leverage my technical training in black and white and seeing value. Regardless, it got me excited about oil painting again, enough to risk all the oily rags and solvents and whatnot.
I was supposed to keep practicing with still life, but my father's birthday gift needed to get done, so I first did this. He wanted a golden dog in the snow, and so here it is.
