Here is another still life taking inspiration of my Chinese heritage (key word is inspiration, clearly we do not scatter sunflower seeds haphazardly on top of silk and cloth, or fill porcelain with them). Growing up my parents' snacks of choice were things such as sunflower seeds and dried dates, so I associate them with my family. The porcelain here are also gifts from my parents. But the exact composition of the painting and how the objects are interacting are all in service of the painting rather than a specific memory. I wanted to paint a large painting that was interesting with different textures, and pleasing to the eye.
